Salve & Suds started with a short list.

Not a business plan — an actual list, written out by hand, of everything we did
not want in the things we put on our skin. It ran longer than we expected. Then
we started making our own soap, and the list of what went in turned out to be
shorter than the list of what stayed out.

That is still how we work. Every bar, scrub, butter and balm we make is built
from ingredients you would recognise in a kitchen: tallow, olive oil, oats,
coffee, sea salt, honey, essential oils. If we cannot say what something is in
plain words, it does not go in.

WHAT SMALL BATCH ACTUALLY MEANS

It means we make a run, and when it is gone we make another. Cold-process bars
sit on an open rack for four weeks before they go anywhere — that cure is what
makes a bar hard, mild and long-lasting, and there is no way to rush it. When
something is sold out on this site, it is because it is still on the rack.

WHO WE ARE

Salve & Suds is the trading name of Kowboj LLC, based in East Rutherford, New
Jersey. We are small. Orders are packed by the same people who make the product.
If something is wrong with your order, the email goes to us, not a queue.

OUR STANDARDS

No parabens. No synthetic dyes. No SLS or SLES. No fragrance oils where an
essential oil will do. Never tested on animals, and never will be.

We are not certified organic as a company — certification is a real cost and we
would rather put it into the ingredients — but where an ingredient is certified
organic, we mark it with an asterisk on the label and tell you what it is.
